ARLENE HUGHES

3/1/1941 - 2/10/2026

Arlene Pollock Hughes, 84, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at her home in Beaver Dam, Arizona, surrounded by her husband and children.

Arlene was born March 1, 1941, in Springdale, Utah, to Denzil and Emoline Brooks Pollock. In 1941, her family moved to Hawthorne, Nevada. She enjoyed rock hounding with her dad and cherished summer vacations driving the West Coast. She welcomed Bob Arvin Hughes home from his LDS mission in 1958 and married her sweetheart of nearly 67 years on March 4, 1959, in Gardnerville, Nevada.

Arlene graduated from Mineral County High School in 1959, where she participated in Pep Club and Glee Club. She also enjoyed playing softball with her church.

After welcoming their first three children in Hawthorne, Bob and Arlene moved to Las Vegas in 1962, where they welcomed and raised three more children. Arlene later became a foster mother to more than 20 children in Las Vegas. She was deeply devoted to her family and never claimed to have a favorite child, often saying that each of her children had their time.

Arlene first worked in food preparation at the Sears Cafeteria in the Boulevard Mall. She later found her calling in Accounts Payable for several small companies and eventually for Clark County, where she retired in 2002.

Arlene was an avid bird enthusiast and a member of the Las Vegas Bird Club. She bred birds as well as rabbits, gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs, fish, and chickens. She traveled the country alongside Bob on his bowling trips, though one of her favorite adventures was their cruise to Alaska.

She loved the holidays because they meant family time. Halloween held a special place in her heart, and she always dressed as a witch. She had one of the best witch cackles you could imagine. Her literal, witty sense of humor could bring a smile to anyone's face.

Beyond her family, her greatest love was crafting. She enjoyed ceramics, crocheting, macramé, beading, making dreamcatchers, and participating in art shows. She was an active lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a deep love for the Savior. She truly knew she was a Child of God.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Denzil and Emoline Pollock, and her grandson, Thomas Sneed.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Bob Hughes Sr. of Beaver Dam, Arizona; her six children and their spouses: Robin and Dearl Sneed of Las Vegas; Bob Jr. and Toni Hughes of Las Vegas; Brad and Melinda Hughes of Surprise, Arizona; Sheila and Paul Orr of Las Vegas; Ramona and Ralph Smith of Browning, Illinois; and Fawn and Jason Worthen of Las Vegas, Nevada; as well as 25 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Denise Andrus of Nampa, Idaho, and Ranae and Jim Billings of Hawthorne, Nevada.

A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. (MST), with funeral services at 11:00 a.m., at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3260 E. Highway 91, Littlefield, Arizona 86432. Interment will follow at the Littlefield Cemetery.
