Mrs. Betsy Amick Rhodes Obituary

Las Vegas, Nevada - Betsy Amick Rhodes, beloved mother, educator, and community leader, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025. She was 94. Born in Sacramento, California, in 1931 she made Las Vegas her lifelong home, where her leadership and compassion shaped generations.

Betsy moved to Las Vegas in 1958 with her late husband, Leonard Rhodes. Dr. Leaonard Rhodes would eventually start his own Dental Practice, which became one of the most successful in Las Vegas, and Betsy began her entry into community service on the Clark County Women's Dental Auxiliary.

Betsy was a proud Las Vegan and a tireless volunteer. She supported numerous local organizations focused on literacy, children's health, and neighborhood development. Her leadership extended far beyond the classroom — she was known for bringing people together, encouraging civic involvement, and lending her voice to causes that made Las Vegas a stronger, more connected community. Over four decades, Betsy Rhodes has been a community leader devoted to education and philanthropic advances. Service League, Eventual President Junior League of Las Vegas, Fantasy Park and Playground Development, Founding member and eventual president of Assistance League of Las Vegas, Clark County Dental Axillary, Council of Social Agencies, Junior Mesquite, Clark County Board of Domestic Violence , Southern Nevada Junior Tennis Patrons Foundation, State Advisory Board on Children's Nutritional Education, Block Grants, Consumer Advocate on the Nevada State Board of Pharmacy, Cotillion, PTA, Boy Scouts and Christmas Benefits symbolize Betsy's spirit and commitment to the Las Vegas community.

Her unwavering commitment to children and education was recognized through the dedication of Betsy A. Rhodes Elementary School in her honor. The school's "Namesake" page fittingly describes her as "a primary school teacher by profession, a wife and mother by choice, and a leader by involvement." Betsy embodied the school's guiding spirit to "Soar to Success," inspiring countless students and families through her example.

Betsy Rhodes embraced life with joy, grace, and appreciation for the good that life had to offer. She loved a beautifully set table, a home meticulously decorated for the Holidays, a garden in full bloom, and the laughter of friends gathered around her home. Whether she was preparing her favorite dishes, hosting a party at her house or enjoying a game of tennis or a day on the slopes, Betsy found happiness in shared moments and simple pleasures. Betsy and Leonard enjoyed dinners with political and business leaders, in addition to entertainers and celebrities. Betsy's eye for beauty, warmth of spirit, and genuine love of people made every occasion special to those who knew her best, she was at the heart of every celebration; a woman who truly lived life with style, kindness, and gratitude.

Betsy Rhodes is preceded by her husband of 49 years, Dr. Leonard Rhodes and her sister Maryln Atanosoff, and is survived by her three sons: Dr. Steve Rhodes DDS-FACP, Diplomat of the American Board of Prosthodontics, Dr. John Rhodes MD, MBA, President and CEO of Optum Nevada and Southwest Medical, (wife Shelley Rhodes) and Jim Rhodes a home builder and real estate developer, eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Besty loved the Lord with all her heart and lived each day with gratitude for God's blessings. She will now rest in the eternal peace promised to all who believe. "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God." — Matthew 5:8
