Las Vegas, Nevada - Happy 95th Heavenly Birthday Dad! We miss you every day. Las Vegas, NV. Charles Creighton McGilvery, 92, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away on March 3, 2023. He was born on July 20, 1931, in Selby, South Dakota, to Alert and Margaret. Albert worked as a bookkeeper in the great depression and went on to serve in the United States Navy for many years. Charles's brother Albert also served in the Marine Corps. Margaret was an elementary school teacher, and her sister (Charles's aunt) Rose Anita White served as a nun in a convent in St. Paul, Minnesota until her death in 2002. Life was very hard rural South Dakota and with harsh winters and no access to health care, two of Charles's brothers died of pneumonia by the time he was 5 years old. Charles made Las Vegas his home in the late 1950's and worked in gaming, but he also worked all over the world. He served as an electrician in the Viet Nam War and in the Marshal Islands for 4 years during the atomic testing on Bikini Atoll. He then started his career at Bahrain Oil and worked in Singapore, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. Although he faced many language barriers, his charming and kind personality made him a friend to all. He was also incredibly funny and was the life of any party. People really loved to be around him, and he had many lifelong friends. Charles is survived by his daughters Barbra, Debbie and Starr, nephew Craig, and many wonderful grandchildren and extended family. He was preceded in death by his father, Albert; his mother, Margaret; his brothers, Albert, Jim and Richard; his sister Beth, and daughter Linda. His service was private and he was laid to rest in Ivy Lawn Cemetery in Ventura, California, next to his parents and brother Albert. We are so proud of who you were dad, heaven is lucky to have you.
