Las Vegas, NV - David Michael McCormick, 82, of Chicago and Las Vegas, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2026.

Born on February 16, 1944, to David and Sarah McCormick, Dave was known for his quick wit, intellectual curiosity, and lifelong love of football, history, and education.

Known to family and lifelong friends as "Butch," Dave grew up in Chicago, where he attended St. Rita High School. His love of football earned him the opportunity to attend & complete his college education at Michigan State University, on a full athletic scholarship. Football remained one of his greatest interests throughout his life, and he loved sharing stories from his playing days and discussing the game with anyone willing to join the conversation.

Following college, Dave dedicated his career to education. As a teacher at Lindblom High School, he taught math, science, and was a varsity athletics football & baseball coach. He also had a deep interest in history, statistics, and current events, and he never passed up the chance for a thoughtful & engaging discussion or a spirited, but friendly debate. If you spent time with Dave, chances are you learned something new or walked away understanding a little bit more about the other side of things.

He is survived by his children, Matthew McCormick and his wife, Bethany; Todd McCormick and his wife, Holly; and Natalie Schuler and her husband, Pete; his beloved grandchildren, Peter and Sara Schuler; his sister, Ann Dresden; his brother, George McCormick; his half-brother, Tom McCormick; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, former students, teammates, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Sarah McCormick, and his sister, Maureen McCormick LaForte.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to his beloved cousin, Katherine Beehn, together they shared a very special lifelong bond.

Her loving care, compassion & support, especially in his later years, brought him great comfort and joyful companionship. Her deep devotion & loyalty will always be remembered with great appreciation.

Dave will be remembered for his passion for football, love of learning, his engaging conversations, and the many lives he touched as a teacher, teammate, friend, and family member.

A celebration of Dave's life will be held this fall, with details to be shared at a later date.
