Dell Ray Rhodes, mother of 2 sons Charles Freeman and Robert Rhodes, 5 daughters Cordelia Wallace, Vera Green, Rochelle Hodge, Anise Rhodes, and Priscilla Rhodes, with a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, died peacefully on July 2, 2025, at her home in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was born on the Omega Plantation in Omega, Louisiana, on February 26, 1947, to Abe Wiggins and Vera Lee Gregory (Stafford). At the age of 3, Dell Ray relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada with her mother and siblings, where she grew up in the Historic West Side. Predeceased by her first husband, Charles Edward Freeman, she is survived by her second husband, Robert Rhodes Jr., whom she met in Oakland, California, after a brief residency.


In 1982 Dell Ray, husband Robert, and children returned to Las Vegas, Nevada. She had a colorful career working for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier, which began in 1987. She loved her community and education, which Dell Ray advocated for daily. In 1992, Dell Ray joined the WAAK UP organization to assist her community, insisting on the implementation of African American history in the CCSD education curriculum. She attended city council meetings, school board meetings, or paved the streets for awareness Dell Ray selflessly gave of herself. She was also a member of the NAACP. Earning the citizen of the month award in 2009 with the City of Las Vegas. Dell Ray knew no strangers, and she was always willing to provide the information you needed to get a higher education.


Dell Ray Rhodes will be celebrated on July 12, 2025, at Palm Eastern Mortuary at 7600 S Eastern Avenue, Las Vegas, Nevada 89123 at 1:00 pm.
