DON CROFT TINGEY

Don Croft Tingey, 88, died peacefully surrounded by his family at his Westwind home March 3, 2024 in Las Vegas. He was born December 23, 1935 in his pioneer home in Centerville, UT, to William Wesley Tingey and Sylvia Carr Tingey. He was the second of 10 children: Earl, Don, Sherman, Nola, Merlyn, Alice, Brent, Doug, Loraine, Mavis. He loved his family. Coming from generations of family farming, Don learned all of life's skills for growing produce, working hard, caring for others, caring for animals, being frugal, being grateful, and recognizing the Lord's blessings in his life. As a man of faith, he honorably served a mission in Sydney, Australia for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After attending Davis High School, Don graduated from The University of Utah in 1962. He attended law school at George Washington University and graduated in 1966. His law practice, established in Las Vegas well over 50 years ago, was founded in 1969 and continues today. He was well recognized and respected in the legal community as an attorney with negotiation skill, compassion for all and unyielding integrity. He was a founding supporter of Nevada Justice Association, who recently recognized and honored him with their Lifetime Achievement Award. Don met and fell in love with Judith Williams in their teenage years. After serving a mission, they were married in the Salt Lake Temple, November 21, 1958. Together, Don and Judy raised 12 children: Linda, David, Lisa, Bruce, Dean, Christine, Jill, Brent, Craig, Jana, Mark, Chad. This Tingey family was a joy and a privilege to be raised by Don and Judy as parents. They knew their large family was important, so they made their best efforts to maintain family relationships. There was always excitement and love at home, as well as honor to parents. Together they established a remarkable legacy that will grow exponentially and into eternity. Judy passed away February 15, 2009, shortly after celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Judy's memory and influence continues to be felt daily. Don raised his large family at Westwind in the same home for 50 years. The farmer in him was always an enduring strength. He fed his family (and countless friends) with produce grown in his own garden, fruit from dozens of trees, fresh eggs from chickens, and gallons of goat milk fresh each morning and night. Don cared personally for everyone. He raised two horses, dozens of goats and other animals as part of his effort to teach his children how to care for the needs of others. He was fond of dogs and had a special affection for his cats. Tingey family time was important. Don would often play the accordion for his children to dance the Hokey Pokey at a Family Home Evening. He would take his children camping where he would play the harmonica around the fire. Coming home late from a family trip, he would carry children from the car to their bed for those sleeping (or pretending to sleep.) Sunday dinner, with everyone around one table, started with a prayer of gratitude and was always garnished with fresh produce while his eyes were on your dinner plate to make sure you ate what you took. Don married Lucksanawadee "Nid" Juljue March 3, 2012, exactly 12 years before the date of his death. Nid brought with her two more children for Don, Ann and Amm. Nid and her daughters greatly complimented Don's life. Nid was especially compassionate to him. Don and Nid were sealed in the Nevada Las Vegas Temple, July 27, 2018, a ceremony performed by his older brother, Elder Earl C. Tingey. Nid's devotion and love to Don was always abundant, especially so when his health declined and she kindly tended to his comfort and peace. An honorable mention to Don's good friend, Don Corbin, for his unfailing companionship as he helped to maintain Westwind while patiently listening to Don repeat the stories of all the good times in his life, as a master storyteller. Don leaves a very impressive legacy of posterity that will continue to grow. He was proud of his family. Through his children and their equal number of spouses, Don has 58 grandchildren, who with their spouses add to his posterity, blessing Don with 60 great-grandchildren. Don is survived by and loved by a number of posterity growing at 170 members of his Tingey family. Don loves each member of his large family. He knows their names. And has a nickname for each. We share Don's faith and hope in the power of a resurrection with eternal families in a life that is eternal. He understood the plan of happiness. There is peace and joy for his family as we share his life on earth and honor him. Visitation will be 6-8pm Fri., Mar. 8, at Palm Mortuary,1600 S Jones Blvd., Las Vegas. Additional visitation will be at 10am Sat. Mar. 9, with services following, both at the Lindell LDS Chapel, 2245 S Lindell Rd, Las Vegas. A smaller interment limited to family will be at 1pm Sun., Mar. 10, at Palm South Jones.
