Earnestine Lavoris Howell Obituary

Las Vegas, Nevada - Earnestine Lavoris Dotson Howell was born to James Earnest Dotson and Cleo Underwood in Rochester, Texas in 1934. She was the oldest of ten children growing up in Idalou, Texas and married Bobby C. Howell in 1953 they were married for 27 years. The U.S. Air Force sent them to Indian Springs, Nevada in 1954. She had four children, Sherry Anita Sanders, Teri Howell, Bobbie Ann Howell, and Richard Howell all born in Nevada. She has six grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

She was a homemaker and worked at the Nevada Test Site for Reynolds Electric, Federal Services, EG & G. In 1965 she began work in Indian Springs, Nevada for the Clark County School District as an Elementary School Office Manager and in schools in Las Vegas, Nevada until 2006. She was a member of the National Association of Educational Office Professionals.

She was active in her church, taking many young people to youth events, church camp, and adventures together. She was a member of the Desert Democrats Toastmasters Club, Red Hat Society, and TOPS. She met regularly with her retired colleagues and friends. She enjoyed cooking, reading cookbooks, collecting recipes, and weaving on a floor loom creating beautiful blankets, rugs, and scarfs for many loved ones.


She was proceeded in death by her parents, her daughter Sherry, and five brothers, and one sister.


A viewing (wake) will be held from noon-2pm on Saturday, March 22, 2025, with funeral service from 2-3pm, graveside service from 3-3:30pm, reception from 3:30-5pm, all at Palm Mortuary Northwest, 6701 North Jones Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89131.
