Edith (Reich) Eakin Obituary

Las Vegas, NV - Edith Eakin (88) of Las Vegas, NV died of natural causes on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at a local hospital.

She was born on the family farm in Sommerau, Ostpreusen, East Prussia/Germany to Albert and Ella (Läuffert) Reich, sister of Ursula and twin brother Werner.

Coming to the USA in October of 1951 with her parents and siblings, she lived in Upper Sandusky, Ohio where she met and married Charles Ashmore in 1953. While in Ohio she worked as a car hop. They moved to Las Vegas in 1958. Her first job in Vegas was at the Flamingo Hotel & Casino as a change girl. Years later advancing to the Main Casino Cage at the Las Vegas Club, then the Riviera Hotel & Casino where she retired after 20 years.

Edith attended night classes to earn her American Naturalization in 1970 while raising four children.

A multi-talented woman, she was a superb seamstress making cloths for her children and enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, cooking, gardening and fishing for fun.

Preceding her in death are her sister, Ursula (1971), and son, Charles "Chuck" (1976).

She is survived by her twin brother, Werner Reich, sons Robert and Donald and daughter Karen (Jeff), 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Loving mother, she faced life's challenges with courage, strength and will be missed and in our heart always.
