With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of George W. Shiroky, who left this world on February 10, 2025, at the age of 88. He was surrounded by love, family, and the warmth of cherished memories as he took his final journey.

Born in Russell, Kansas, George was the son of Charles Sr. and Iva I. Shiroky. He was raised in Lucas, Kansas, and Sylvan Grove, Kansas, where he developed the strong values of hard work, honesty, and generosity that would define his life. After graduating from Sylvan Grove High School, George answered the call to serve his country.

In July of 1954, he joined the United States Navy, serving with dedication and pride aboard the USS Hancock. His service took him to many places, and in 1957, he was honorably discharged at Naval Station Treasure Island in San Francisco, California. Following his military service, George pursued higher education at the University of Wichita in Kansas, in January of 1958.

During this time, he met Cynthia Christianson, through mutual friends. Their connection was enduring, and on November 4, 1961, they began their lives together as husband and wife.

In 1963, George joined the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Local 720, in Las Vegas, Nevada, embarking on a career as a stagehand. He took an active role within the union, advocating for workers and ensuring fair conditions as an executive board member. His leadership and dedication led him to serve as interim president of Local 720 at one point, a role he took on with determination and integrity.

After decades of hard work, George retired from IATSE Local 720 in March of 1999, but his passion for the business never faded. He remained connected to the industry by assembling entertainment crews for out-of-town employers through his business, High Tech Crews, Unlimited. His expertise and leadership continued to make a lasting impact, and he took great pride in his work. In recognition of his dedication and contributions, George was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from IATSE Local 720 in June 2019—a testament to his lasting influence and lifelong service in the industry.

In August 2002, George became a member of the American Legion Post 8 in Las Vegas, a community he was proud to serve. His leadership was quickly recognized, and he was elected Post Commander from 2003 to 2004. His steadfast support for veterans and the values of service and camaraderie were evident in everything he did.

During local Veterans' Day and Independence Day parades, he proudly drove a large float he designed and built to resemble a Navy aircraft carrier. It carried local American Legion veterans from every branch of service, giving them a place of honor as they waved to the cheering crowds.

George's strong work ethic and unwavering commitment to providing for his family were the cornerstones of his life. He loved having his family gathered around him in the home he built from the ground up. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia, his daughters Kelly, Kathy, and Connie, his sister Yvonne, his daughter-in-law Beth, and his son-in-law Jeff. He was a proud grandfather to Stefan James, Taylor Ann-Michelle, and Joely Marie, all of whom he loved dearly.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Robert and Charles Jr.

A service and interment will take place at Southern Nevada Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, Nevada on March 19, 2025, at 12:00 noon. A memorial reception will follow from 1:00 pm to 3:00pm, where family and friends will gather to celebrate George's life and legacy.

Though our hearts ache with his loss, we find comfort in the love he shared, the lessons he taught, and the memories he leaves behind. His spirit will forever guide us, reminding us to live with generosity, strength, and love.
