Henrico, VA - John Charles Noel Critics died at home in Henrico, VA on 15 May 2025 at age 98 after a long and satisfying life. He was a devoted son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, and the owner of several successful small businesses. A curious, lifelong learner, John read extensively, always learning new ideas and developing a better understanding of the world.

Born in Maine, and raised in Florida and Massachusetts, he was a lifelong Red Sox and Patriots fan and a diehard supporter of these teams, even through the many dark years.

John served in the Merchant Marine in the Pacific during World War II on the Liberty ship Katherine B. Sherwood. He supported post-war reconstruction in Europe, delivering critically needed food and supplies to France. The Army drafted him and assigned to Fort Monmouth, NJ from 1948-49. Over the years, he was a Ford factory worker, a Boston-area gas company salesman, home builder, realtor and owner of the Amesbury neighborhood bar The Keg.

In retirement, John moved to Las Vegas where he lived for 29 years, occasionally working part time as a floor sweeper for The Palace Station and as a taxi driver. He moved to the Henrico, VA area in 2014 in order to be closer to his family.

John joins his mother Edith Pelletier, father Charles Criticos, and brother Martin Critics, in death and leaves his son David (Angela), granddaughter Jennifer, grandchildren, Dan (Moriah) and Rebecca, and many nieces and nephews. May he rest in peace.
