JOSEPH COELHO MELLO JR.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Coelho Mello Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, who passed away on February 10, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on September 13, 1937, to Joseph Coelho Mello Sr. and Adeline Mello, Joe lived a life full of passion, purpose, and dedication. Joe spent his early years working on the dairy and vineyard in Tulare, California, where he learned the value of hard work and family. Those formative years shaped Joe's character, providing him with the resilience and drive that carried him through his lifetime. With a career spanning over 60 years, Joe was a successful business owner and carpenter, working in both California and Nevada. His work ethic and commitment to quality craftsmanship were unmatched, and he took great pride in the homes and structures he helped build. Joe's legacy lives on in the many projects he completed and the many people he mentored along the way. In addition to his successful career, Joe was a devoted family man, an avid golfer, and a passionate sports enthusiast. His love of football and basketball was evident, but perhaps his greatest sports achievement was coaching little league baseball to the Western Regional Playoffs in 1977. His coaching legacy was one of encouragement, leadership, and instilling the importance of teamwork. Joe is survived by his devoted wife, Estela; daughter, Elizabeth; nephew, Larry; son-in-law, Wayne; daughter-in-law, Cindy; brother-in-law, Sammy; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will carry on his memory with love. He was a man of strength, humor, and warmth, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A celebration of Joe's life will be held on March 12, 2025. The eulogy begins at 12:30pm, followed by Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church, 4925 S. Torrey Pines Dr., Las Vegas, Nevada. The family invites all who knew Joe to join them in remembering the incredible man he was. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or perform a simple act of kindness in Joe's honor.
