Jules Kabat Obituary

JULES MAX KABAT

Jules Max Kabat passed away on December 8, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on February 12, 1942, Jules was a resident of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Jules Max Kabat was born in Brooklyn, New York, and grew up on Long Island. He attended Lawrence High School and graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1963 with a degree in electrical engineering, having been awarded a New York Regents Scholarship.

Jules began his career as a radar engineer with EG&G Special Projects, a role that brought him to Las Vegas. His expertise in radar countermeasures contributed to safer pilot tactics during the Vietnam War, and he later developed advanced electronic countermeasures and integrated radar warning systems for cutting-edge military aircraft.

While living in Las Vegas, Jules founded his own company, where he designed, developed, and patented the only reliable digital powerline carrier system of its time. This innovation revolutionized communications in large buildings for the hospitality industry and enabled multiplex data transmission for applications ranging from Keno boards to emergency evacuation systems for the tunnels at the Nevada Test Site. He later sold his company to a larger organization, where he became Vice President and General Manager of the Integrated Systems Division and continued to design and build innovative fire alarm systems and control technologies. A keen businessman, Jules was able to retire early, allowing him to enjoy his family and hobbies while continuing to contribute his engineering and business expertise to major projects at the local airport and to the rapidly changing airspace around the Las Vegas Valley.

An avid pilot, aircraft owner and active member of many flying organizations, Jules was awarded the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award in 2015 in recognition of 50 years of safe flying. He flew from the age of 21 until just last April, at 83 years old, accruing over 4,000 hours of flight time. He loved working on his aircraft and cars, walking his dogs, and spending time outdoors. A lifelong New York Giants fan—no matter their performance—he also enjoyed playing and watching football. In his younger years, he earned more than a few scars playing on Las Vegas's first semi-professional hockey team, the Las Vegas Outlaws. Later in life, he remained committed to his health through running, walking, and staying active.

Jules was a man of integrity and passion for what he believed in, but with a solid irreverence for senseless rules. He deeply loved his family, his friends, his pets, and his country. He is survived by his wife, Gillian, and his daughter, Jenny.
