JULIA ANN NEWBERRY Obituary

JULIA ANN NEWBERRY On January 17, 2023 the hand of the Lord reached down and took Julia (Julie) Ann Newberry, 79, of Las Vegas, NV, home. She passed away at their Northwest home in Chinook, WA. Julie is survived by her husband of 40 years, Troy W. New- berry of N. Las Vegas, NV, stepson Chris D. Newberry of Plainville, GA, 5 step- grandchildren, 2 step-great-grandchildren; 5 brothers, Daniel Both of Ellicott City, MD, Donald Both of Columbus MS, William (Bill) Both of Fredericksburg, VA, Dr. John Both of Swanton, OH, James Both of Toledo, OH; and 3 Sisters, Mary Larson of Sacramento, CA, Ellen McDonald of Columbus, OH, and Jeri Valentine of Wellington, OH. Julie was born May 29, 1943 in Canton, OH to the late William Martin and Ida May Both. Julie graduated Lehman High School in 1961, and graduated Malone College in 1965 with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, and completed her Master's Degree at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ, teaching for the next 34 years, Julie retired in 1999, having spent 29 of those years in the Clark County School District, Las Vegas, NV, the last 17 of those years at a one teacher school in Goodsprings, NV. Julie also served 5 of those years as the Coordinator of the CCSD Academically Talented Program. During her career Julie often appeared in Las Vegas news- papers and on television news. First for Coordinating the Academically Talent Program, but even more for being the Responsible Teacher of Goodsprings Elementary School. Over the years she received many honors and awards, her most recent honor was a Distinguished Alumni Award in 2022 from the Lehman High School Alumni Assn. Julie spent her retirement years playing bridge; traveling; serving as Co-President of the Good- springs Historical Society; and volunteering at Nathan Adelson Hospice. A Memorial service will be held Sunday May 7th as 3:00 pm at Mountain View Presbyterian Church, 8601 Del Web Blvd Las Vegas NV.
