LEON TALLMADGE MAGWOOD
August 20, 1934 – February 20, 2025
Leon Tallmadge Magwood was born August 20th, 1934 in Brunswick, Georgia to Alice and Isaiah and left us on February 20th , 2025. He graduated from Risley High School in 1952. He had an honorable and proud career in the United States Air Force and never left the house without his U.S. Veteran hat on. During his time serving his country in Germany, he met and fell in love with Gisela Schafer. Together, they raised Erika and Barbara. Leon and Gisela eventually settled in Las Vegas, joining his brother Major Magwood who preceded him in death in 2024. Leon and Gisela operated a thriving snack shop in the Federal Building and Leon worked for the City of Las Vegas, never missing a day until he retired. He also managed to achieve a college degree in accounting in 1982 from Clark County Community College. Gisela and Leon were considered Golden Nugget royalty as they dined and gambled there every day and he was an excellent and knowledgeable tour guide to anyone visiting Las Vegas and they often played host to visiting family. Gisela preceded him in death in 1995 and Leon lived a full and active life well into his late 80's with his companion Mable Daniels, still driving and taking care of himself and her until a car accident injured his spine and severely changed his way of life. He was lovingly cared for by his daughter and son-in-law, Erika and Nathan during this time. He will be affectionately remembered as a warrior, our Opa and our Bernie.
Leon leaves to mourn his daughters, Erika (Nathan) Eatman and Barbara (Elijah, deceased) Allen; His grandchildren, Jacqueline (Bernd) Fiedler, Darlene Horton, Raquel (Josh) Folph and Johnny (Darlene)
English; His nephews David (Starla) Williams and John Williams. Niece, Doreen Williams.
