MARGARET HIGHFIELD ILLIONS

June 16, 1932 – Oct. 13, 2025

Margaret passed away peacefully in her home with her beloved dog Casey and family. Margaret was a strong, smart, confident, woman who leaves a legacy of love with all who knew her.

Her parents entered America through Ellis Island from Scotland, landing in Brooklyn where Margaret was born. A passionate immigrant who lived the American Dream for 93 years.

Her accomplishments were many.

Early in her marriage to Kenny Highfield, they ran the roller rink at Pacific Ocean Park (Santa Monica Pier). She read an ad in Sunset Magazine about a ski resort for sale in Las Vegas. The rest is history as she was a founding member of the Lee Canyon Ski Resort in 1962.

KenMar Real Estate was the original real estate company on the mountain. Margaret was the broker and sold real estate in Nevada and California.

Later she decided to become an architect by studying architecture at UNLV. She loved art and architecture, building several homes.

Her most accomplished hobby was quilting, art quilting that earned numerous Best in Show awards and the admiration from the quilting community nationwide. Most recently in 2024 showing a magnificent art piece where she enjoyed the accolades from many just wanting to meet her.

Dogs were always in her life, so many dogs that she loved so very much. There is even a ski run at Lee Canyon Ski Resort named after her boy's favorite Samoyed, Bimbo.

She had a tribe of neighbors and friends she loved and appreciated. Carol, Jackson, Bonnie, Cory, Hugh, Katie are just a few that kept her laughing.

Her greatest love in life was her three boys for whom she dedicated her life. From their earliest years she was the doting mother encouraging their passions with school, skiing and tennis. Her grandchildren were her joy, choosing trips and time together over presents. The great grandchildren were simple magic that she acknowledged as such.

Gratitude goes to the caregivers of Brightstar, Nathan Adelson Hospice and dear friend Gabby Barel.

Margaret is survived by Glen and Pam Highfield, Scott Highfield, Russell Highfield and Misty Chadwick Highfield, Leah and Sara Highfield, Tucker Highfield, Shannon Highfield and Ben Beesley, Whitney Highfield, Daniel and Megan Highfield, Kathy Osborn, Ina Highfield, and (her greatgranchildren) Nikki, Kai and Lily Highfield, and Addie Highfield Beesley. Joey Chadwick, Cherry Dessel, Nichole and Ruly Ostolaza, Crystal Chadwick and Guzman Chavarria, Cherish Dessel and countless friends.

She will be missed deeply and her legacy lives on. If you ever see the sun sparkle on a patch of snow or the sky so blue it can only be the shade of her eyes, smile knowing she is always with us.

Join us for light bites and a celebration of her fabulous life on Sunday, December 7, noon-4, at 7504 Dry Pines Circle, Las Vegas 89129
