Matthew Edward Mooney (Matt) Obituary
Henderson, NV - Matthew Edward Mooney, known affectionately as Matt to his friends and family, passed away on August 6, 2025, at the age of 76, in Henderson, Nevada. Born on April 13, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan, he was a man of remarkable resilience and charisma. Matt's journey through life was marked by his indomitable spirit and his ability to touch the lives of those around him with joy and generosity.
Despite leaving school at the tender age of 15, Matt's thirst for knowledge and self-improvement led him to earn his GED five years later, proving that true education comes from a life well-lived and the lessons it teaches us along the way. Matt's entrepreneurial drive manifested early. By the age of 24, he had started a trucking company in Michigan, and just four years later, he ventured into the culinary world by opening his first pizzeria. His business acumen saw his trucking company grow to a fleet of 10 semi-trucks by the time he was 30. At the age of 32, he relocated his family to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he opened the beloved Terina's Pizza, named after his daughter.
At the age of 47, Matt embarked on a new career journey, entering the time-share industry, where he excelled for nearly three decades. His work ethic, combined with his personable nature, made him a respected figure in the business community and among his peers.
Matt was raised a Catholic who lived his faith through his actions—showing kindness, extending help to those in need, and always providing a word of encouragement or a shoulder to lean on. He was a pillar of strength for his family and friends, embodying the very essence of Christian love and compassion.
Family was the cornerstone of Matt's life. He was a loving husband to Donna Mooney (née Philpott), a nurturing father to his three children, Terina, Matthew (Jack), and Kelly, and a doting grandfather to Matthew Jack Jr. and Caliope Philpott. He also leaves behind his brothers, Don, Mike, and Tim, with whom he shared an unbreakable bond, forged in the loving home created by their parents, Eileen and Edward Mooney, who preceded him in death.
Matt's interests were a reflection of his love for life and community. He was an excellent cook, often delighting his family and friends with his culinary creations. A passionate sports fan, he could be found cheering on his beloved Golden Knights, rooting for the Detroit Lions and Tigers, or supporting the Michigan collegiate teams across all sports. Classic movies were his solace, allowing him to unwind and relish the storytelling of times gone by.
Matthew Edward Mooney's legacy is one of determination, love, and the joy of living each day to its fullest. He will be remembered for his hearty laugh, his unwavering support, and the deep connections he fostered throughout his remarkable life. Matt's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and his stories will be recounted with fondness and admiration for generations to come.
