Las Vegas, NV - Merlene R Neville finished the final chapter of her book on March 28, 2026 at the age of 93.


Merlene was born in McGill, Nevada, on November 27, 1932, to Vernon and Bernice Roylance. She was raised in McGill and attended White Pine High School, class of 1950. She was always proud of where she came from and often shared stories of growing up in McGill.


She attended BYU and graduated with a degree in Education. While at BYU, she met and married Wendell Neville. They were married for 62 years.


Merlene worked for the Clark County School District as an English Teacher and a Librarian. She taught English at Las Vegas High School, opened the Library at Cannon Middle School, and then transferred to and retired from Valley High School. After her retirement, she worked as a part-time Librarian at Desert Rose Adult Education School. She spoke highly of all her students and truly loved what she did for a living. After 59 years of educating teens and adults, she finally retired.


Merlene is preceded in death by her parents, Vernon Roylance and Bernice Grant Roylance, her husband, Wendell Neville, and her son, David Neville. She is survived by her daughter, Janet Nordine, son-in-law Wayne Nordine, and two grandchildren, Grant (Ari) and Jenny Nordine. She is also preceded by countless dogs, cats, goats, and burros. She is survived by her loyal poodle, Teddy, who never left her side.
