Robert Murray Rice Obituary

Las Vegas, NV - Robert Murray Rice was born on July 12, 1959 in Pomona, CA to R. Frank Rice and Yvonne Gaylene (Gunnison) Rice. After a brief battle with metastatic colon cancer, he passed away at his home in Las Vegas, NV on the morning of June 4th, 2025 with his wife and son by his side.

Robert graduated from Garey High School, Pomona California - class of 1977. After graduation he attended MtSAC, the Academy of Performing Arts, and UC Riverside. In 1988, he married Dottie (Goforth) Rice with whom he raised two children. Robert and his family lived in the Inland Empire of Southern CA for more than 20 years until relocating to Las Vegas, NV in 2009. Robert worked in facilities management for various companies in California and Nevada.

In 2022, Robert became a member of the Christian Motorcyclists Association (CMA), and served in the Las Vegas Lights #559 chapter as Treasurer then, later, as President. In January 2025, he was appointed to the position of Southern NV State Area Representative, and faithfully served with his wife in this capacity until his passing six months later.

Robert loved stories. He frequently engaged people around him with a genuine interest to know their story, often sharing his own stories and offering to pray with them. The CMA afforded Robert many opportunities to connect with others, especially those in the motorcycling community, and to let them know that they had value and that Jesus loves them. He showed this also in very practical ways, as when he would help stranded riders. Robert's vision was in alignment with the CMA, and he was intentional in his efforts to change the world one heart at a time.

In addition to his parents and grandparents, Robert is preceded in death by his brother, Michael Rice; nephews Cameron Phillips and Kenny Walsh Rice; his sister-in-law, Cindy (Goforth) Phillips; and uncles, Benjamin and James Rice. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Dorothy (Dottie) Goforth Rice of Las Vegas, NV; daughter, Katelyn (Rice) aka: Zahariel Baer Lettercast of Spokane, WA; son, SSgt. Shawn Rice of Phoenix, AZ; one brother, William (Bill) Rice and his wife, Dona, of Chino Hills, CA; one sister, Gaylene (Rice) Greathouse and her husband, Doug, of Arlington, TX; his mother-in-law, Suzanne Platt of Las Vegas, NV; sister-in-law, Linda (Goforth) Woods and her husband, Alistar Wayne, of Ontario, CA; sister-in-law, Kristy Goforth of Laughlin, AZ; one aunt, Loneta Rice, numerous cousins, and many nieces and nephews.

Robert's body was laid to rest on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Bunker Memory Gardens, 7251 W. Lone Mountain Road, Las Vegas, NV.

A Celebration of Life will be held @ 1pm Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Fervent 4295 N. Rancho Drive, Las Vegas, NV. A reception will follow which will include refreshments and the CMA offering bike blessings on demand from 3-5pm at Hangman's Way and Desert Bloom Court, Las Vegas, NV 89129.
