RONALD COMINGS Obituary

RONALD DAVID COMINGS

July 11, 1948 – June 30, 2026

Ronald David Comings, 77, of Las Vegas, NV, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born July 11, 1948, in Pomona, CA, Ron built a remarkable career in television news, rising from early broadcasting work in Wichita to newsroom leadership roles in Spokane, Sacramento, Honolulu, and Las Vegas, where, in 2015, retired as news director of KLAS-TV/8 News Now.

A gifted storyteller, mentor, and steady newsroom leader, Ron helped guide awardwinning journalism recognized with multiple Emmy Awards, three Murrows, three Peabodys, two Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Awards, and a George Polk honor. He was also inducted into the Nevada Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame.

Ron's early TV reporting had its bright, unforgettable moments, too, including his wonderfully offbeat 1979, Florida feature on Twiggy the water-skiing squirrel. For a guy growing up in Colorado who wanted a cowboy career, his true calling was journalism.

Outside the newsroom, Ron enjoyed drawing, painting, golfing, and riding his Harley-Davidson, especially with his son, Oliver. He is survived by his wife, Kerri; children Ronda, Oliver, Alix, and Austin; granddaughter Penelope; and many family members, friends, and colleagues.

A celebration of life will be announced later.
