RONALD MICH'L Obituary
RONALD MICH'L
Ronald (Ron) C. Mich'l passed away on May 19 at 3:30 PM at his Las Vegas home at the age of 86. Though his health had declined in recent years, his mind remained sharp. His passing was unexpected but peaceful.
Born July 19, 1939, in Kanab, UT, Ron was the son of Frank and Viola Mich'l and the younger brother of Forrest. He shared more than 50 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Carolyn, until her passing on October 9, 2024, in their home with Ron by her side. He is survived by his four children—Darin, Lance, Kristian, and Dawn—11 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Raised in Kanab with modest means, Ron developed a deep appreciation for hard work and simple living. Hunting, fishing, and camping were part of everyday life, and he discovered a lifelong love for basketball. After moving to Las Vegas in 1954, he excelled at Basic High School, earning All-State honors and setting scoring records that stood until 1986. He went on to Utah State on a full basketball scholarship, where his team ranked as high as #6 nationally.
After college, Ron served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Tacoma, WA, where he met Carolyn Hill in a "chance" encounter at American Lake on the beach. They married on January 25, 1964, beginning a devoted partnership that defined his life.
Returning to Las Vegas, Ron followed his father into Local 720 and built a respected career as Head Lighting Technician at the Sahara Hotel. There, he worked alongside renowned entertainers such as Johnny Carson, Jerry Lewis, Tony Bennett, Don Rickles, Buddy Hackett, and Charo. He later served as Business Representative for Local 720, earning re-election six times and holding the position for a record 12 years. In retirement, he was recently honored as the union's longest-living gold member.
Ron will be remembered for his integrity, quiet strength, humor, and genuine kindness—qualities that earned him deep respect and lasting friendships. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Dad, May the roads rise up to meet you. May the wind always be at your back. May the sun, shine warm upon your face and the rain fall softly upon your fields. Travel safe Dad!
