DR RUBY LEE DUNCAN

Dr. Ruby Lee Duncan was a pioneering humanitarian, activist, and community leader whose unwavering advocacy transformed the lives of countless families throughout Las Vegas and beyond. Born in Tallulah, LA, Ruby overcame extraordinary hardship to become a nationally respected voice for welfare rights, social justice, and community empowerment. As co-founder of Operation Life, she helped establish vital programs providing healthcare, education, housing assistance, childcare, and employment resources to underserved communities. Known for her courage, compassion, and steadfast commitment to uplifting others, Ruby became the first African American woman to organize a protest that shut down the Las Vegas Strip, bringing national attention to poverty and inequality. Her life's work earned numerous honors and left a lasting impact on generations of families across Nevada. Above all, Ruby will be remembered as a devoted mother, beloved matriarch, and woman of faith whose legacy continues to inspire hope, dignity, and change. A visitation will be held Friday, May 22, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Second Baptist Church 500 Madison Ave. Las Vegas, NV 89101. The funeral will be held Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Second Baptist Church.Tributes can be shared at www.giddensmemorialchapel.com.
