Stephen Robert Qualey (Steve) Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Stephen "Steve" Qualey, who peacefully left us on December 24, 2024, at the age of 91. He was born on January 7, 1933, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the eldest of three siblings, to parents Joseph and Mary Qualey.

Steve graduated from High School in Pittsburgh, PA before serving in the United States Army, where he was recognized for meritorious service, including a deployment to Germany. After being discharged from the Army he met, and married Frieda James and they relocated to California for a short time, before moving to Las Vegas in 1960 where they made their home for 65 years.

Steve lived a life full of kindness and laughter. He was a devoted husband to his beautiful wife, Frieda, with whom he shared 67 years of marriage. Together, they built a loving family and created cherished memories. He was a proud father of: Robert Qualey (Gail), Nancy Qualey, and Vincent Qualey (Laura), and a loving Papa to Deborah Qualey, Emily Qualey McKinley, Robbie Qualey Jr, Kristy Qualey, Patrick Qualey, Stephen Qualey and great-grandson Jayden. Sharing time and celebrations with family was one of his favorite things to do.

He was a devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan and shared that enthusiasm with his family - Here We Go, Steelers! Throughout his life, Steve was known for his kindness, generosity, and always being there to help or provide support. He could fix and build anything and was always eager to help others. He was a dedicated aircraft mechanic for thirty years. Starting his career with Bonanza Airlines in 1960 and retiring from Delta Airlines, where he made significant contributions and earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues. Steve enjoyed bike riding and motorcycling, he loved being outdoors and exploring new places and creating fun adventures. He enjoyed spending time at the Lake and the Beach, relaxing and taking part in boating, skiing and diving. Steve is survived by his wife, three children, seven grandchildren, and his sisters Mary Stewart (Bill) and Virginia Mills. Steve's legacy will live on through his family and friends that love him dearly. In honoring his request of not holding a service a private burial was held at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City.
