Stephen Mayne Rushton, Jr. son of Stephen Mayne Rushton and Joyce Peterson passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2022 while traveling back from a hunting trip in Utah. He was born in Logan, Utah on April 24, 1955 and was the oldest of four sons.
He lived in Logan, Utah until the age of three. The family then moved to Austin, Nevada. Steve attended school where grades 1-4 were combined as one class. The family then moved to Minden, Nevada. At the age of 12, the family moved again, this time to American Fork, Utah. Steve graduated from American Fork High School in 1973 where he served as the Student Body President playing several sports: Football, Baseball and Wrestling. He served a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the New York Rochester Mission in 1974 to 1976.
Steve met and married his beautiful wife, Kelley Michele Worthen Rushton while attending Utah State University in 1976. They were sealed for Eternity in the St George, Utah Temple on June 10, 1977. On March 22, 1978, their oldest son, Jeffrey Kolten was born. Two years later, on March 31, 1980, their daughter, Kodi Michele joined their family. Following graduation in June of 1980, their small little family moved to Dallas, Texas where Steve worked for Ross Perot's company Cuna Data.
After a whirlwind of traveling for work, the Rushton family left Texas and moved to Las Vegas, NV in December 1981. Shortly after this move, their youngest son, Stephen Kyler was born on October 14, 1982 and completed their young family. Steve worked as an accountant for Stewart, Archibald and Barney for their first 7 years in Las Vegas. Following this he worked for several great companies, including Becker Enterprises, Quality Towing, Hardy Construction, Sierra Air Conditioning and most recently, two and a half years at Nikkiso Cryo.
Steve has served in the Boy Scouts of America as a Scout Master and District volunteer for several council activities including their annual gun-shoot since 1983. He has influenced the lives of hundreds of Young Men acting as a mentor and father over the years. He was awarded Scout Master of the Year four years ago and two years ago received the honor of the Silver Beaver award for his life time dedication to the Boy Scouts of America program. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Steve has served in several callings in the church including; Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, Deacon's Quorum Advisor, Priest Quorum Advisor, Teacher's Quorum Advisor, Young Men's President, Stake Young Men's President, First Counselor in the Bishopric, Second Counselor in the Bishopric, Ward Mission Leader, Ward Clerk, and Home Teacher/Minister.
His love for the outdoors was who he was, a true Mountain Man born 100 years late. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and going for rides in his side by side and exploring. Steve also loved woodworking, welding, and knife making but most importantly, he enjoyed making something for someone and giving it away. The week prior to his passing, Steve spent the week hunting in Utah with family. We are so grateful that his last week he was able to do what he loved and be with those he loved.
Survived by his wife, Kelley Rushton, children, Jeff Rushton (Jen), Kodi Lovett (Jared), Kyler Rushton (Lynette), parents Steve and Joyce Rushton, brothers Stan and Breck Rushton (Wendy), and ten grandchildren, by age, Trevin Lovett, Kaiden Rushton, Ryan Lovett, Paige Rushton, Rhett Rushton, Reese Lovett, Ryker Rushton, Nixon Lovett, Jaxon Lovett, and Ford Rushton.
