Indian Springs, Nevada - Vernon O'Neal Smith of Indian Springs, Nevada passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026. He was born June 8, 1936, in Austin, Texas to Richard and Myrtle Smith who preceded him in death.

He joined the Marines after High School and served four years from which he was very proud throughout his life. He worked as a Head Custodian for the Clark County School District from which he retired after more than 30 years. His many passions include Rodeo, Baseball, and shooting pool. His favorite sports teams were the U of Texas Longhorns, Dallas Cowboys and the Atlanta Braves.

Vern was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Mary Louise Smith. He is survived by his children Dale Greeno, Diane Appeh, Karen Smith and Richard Smith. He was proud and loving to numerous Grandchildren and Greatgrandchildren.

A short graveside service will be held April 2, 10:00 a.m. at Palm Northwest Mortuary and Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers a donation may be made to Saint Josephs Indian School which was his favorite charity.
