Walter Leon Zawrotny Obituary

Walter Leon Zawrotny passed away peacefully at home on November 20th, 2024, he was 87 years young. Born from Polish emigrants, Walter, was the youngest of 5 siblings from Pittsburg, PA. He attended Catholic High school and worked his way as being a flower delivery boy. After High School, Walter entered the Air Force where he became part of the Military Police then the CIA which brought him to Nevada, working at the Nevada Test Site and then ultimately becoming a police office with the City of Henderson in 1961 where he worked for 36 years. Law enforcement was his passion which led him to retire as Assistant Police Chief. We loved listening to his humorous stories on the "beat" and watching him lead the Henderson Industrial Day Parade. He married Virginia Stuart from Henderson 61 years ago at the Little Church of the West and had 3 children, Donna, Stanley, Beth, son in law Rob Mundo, along with 3 grandchildren, Eric, Bobby and Ryan. Outside of loving his family, being a police officer, Walt never missed a chance to root for his Steelers and Pirates with an occasional groan. Black Mountain Country Club was his home away from home and where he met lifelong friends and instilled the love of golf into his family.

Our Dad, taught us important life lessons as not to use the word hate, stand up for what you believe in and hard work will pay off in the end. He loved visiting and adopting dogs from the Henderson Animal Shelter and wish that donations would be made in his honor for all of the animals being taken care of there.
